Choosing the Right Wedding Color Palette to Match Your Vintage Car

Couple

While most girls select their wedding colors from a fabric swatch, or based on their wedding venue, some decide to walk on the wild side and choose a color that matches their favorite vintage ride.

This process can be a little difficult, because vintage cars usually come in very vibrant color, but by pairing them with soft neutrals, you can make your wedding look vintage chic!

First what you’ll want to do is determine the actual color of the car. To accomplish this you can head over to your local paint shop and pull colors that look similar, or even find fabric swatches until you find the exact match. This step is very important, because you’ll want to be able to have the color handy in order to find the perfect complimentary colors, and driving your sweet vintage ride around all the time, is probably unrealistic.

Now that you have the perfect match to your car, start to select colors that will perfectly compliment it. If your color is in the warmer spectrum, like red or pink, then you may like a neutral like khaki, which will complement the color. If your car is in the cool spectrum, then color like gray and black are perfect to match your ride.

Finally you have the perfect palette selected, so share your colors with vendors like your baker, florist, and bridal salon, so that you can incorporate this perfect vintage palette and really tie your wedding together.

4 Reasons Why We Love Blush Bridesmaid Dresses

1.  Versatile Shade

Whether you have fair skinned beauties, olive skinned babes, or caramel colored darlings, there is a shade of blush that will work for you. By looking at color swatches you can choose a hue that best fits the coloring of your bridesmaids, and trust me, they will thank you! No bridesmaid wants to looked washed out while celebrating her best friend’s big day.

2.  Perfect to Mix and Match

While there are many shades of blush to fit every skin color, you may find it difficult to find one to suit all of your gals. If this is the case, we absolutely love mismatched blush dresses. Simply choose a style or fabric, and let your girls have at it. Blush is such a timeless color, that no matter the shade, they always work well together.

3.  Soft & Elegant

Since you were a little girl we know you dreamed of having your perfect hot pink Barbie wedding, but as the big day becomes reality we’re sure your groom might have a few hesitations about wearing such a bright color. Rather than forcing him into a hot pink vest, we think blush is a much more elegant and soft option for your big day. The color is easy on the eyes, but it still says girly girl. Also, this shade has endured the test of time, so when you look back you won’t have to regret the choice.

4.  Fits Every Style

Whether you’re going for glam, rustic, shabby chic, or elegant, blush is the perfect color to compliment nearly any theme. With a small adjustment in accessories, you can tweak your look to perfectly fit your style. If you want your girls to look more rustic, throw on a pair of cowboy boots and the perfect chunky necklace. If glam is more your style, find some heels with rhinestones and match them with a fun pair of rhinestone statement earrings. Looking for something a little more elegant? Match your dress with a classic pearl necklace and a pair of nude pumps, and you’re looking like Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

DIY Tuesday: Macrame Mason Jar Holder

macrame mason jar holder final

It’s DIY Tuesday again, and today we’ll be making a macramé mason jar holder. This project has been one of my favorites, because it is really easy to make which also means it’s easy to re-create. Because of that reason, this project would make a really big impact if you had a large group of them hanging at an outdoor reception, or even grouped together for a sort of chandelier look. While this completed project has a more rustic look, with a few little tweaks it can easily be modified to fit any style. If you’re looking for something more elegant, simply switch the twine out for a satin ribbon and use a mercury glass votive.

Macrame Mason Jar Holder Supplies

Supplies:

  • Twine or Ribbon
  • Smaller Mason Jar
  • Tea light
  • Scissors

Macrame Mason Jar Holder 1

Step One:  Using your twine, cute 8 pieces that each measure three feet. Once they have been cut, line all the pieces up and knot them all together at the end.

Macrame Mason Jar Holder 2

Step Two:  One foot down from the large knot; begin to knot the strands together in pairs of two. You can hang your knot from a hook if this portion is difficult, it will help to keep all the strands straight.

Step Three

Step Three:  Beneath the first set of knots, split the two pieces and knot each strand to its neighboring strand. You will begin to see a sort of net pattern as you continue to do this.

Step Four Mason Jar Holder 4

Step Four:  Continue to knot your strands together in the same net pattern, and after about 3 or four rows, place your mason jar into the net. This will give you a good guide to see how much more you need to macramé. Once you’ve macraméd enough to cover your mason jar, knot together the end piece beneath the jar and voila!

Matching Bridesmaid Getting Ready Looks

While you have slaved over the perfect look for you and your gals when walking down the aisle have you considered a matching look for getting ready? Coordinating your bridesmaid’s morning of style can make for perfect photos that show off your attention to detail, because who said that the only fun pics on your big day had to involve the groom?

While this can be accomplished through a couple different options (monogrammed button-ups or tanks) we absolutely love this bridal party’s matching silk robes.

The matching robes create a soft feminine look that is sure to leave you perfectly styled hair right in its place. Also, the soft fabric makes for a luxurious treat in a time that can be pretty stressful. While we love the soft floral print for the bridesmaids, it’s great to see the bride standing out in traditional white.

Now if you want to take your getting ready look to the next level, monogramming is an easy way to make this look all your own. You can choose to monogram your bridesmaid’s initials on the robes, or even find a fun pair of monogrammed slippers to really pamper each of your girls.

So hit Etsy, find a pattern complimentary to your wedding theme, and let the fun begin!

3 Ways to Choose a Look for Your Groom

That You Love, But is Still True to His Style

Groom's Fashion Two

  • Involve Your Groom in Choosing a Color Scheme
    • While you have dreamed of the perfect shades of pink for your wedding, your groom might have a few ideas on how he’d like to look. Sit down and discuss what color speaks to the two of you as a couple. Try and think of a few words to describe your personalities together, and then choose a color that speaks to those attributes.
  • Let Him Choose the Tux
    • It may seem scary to let your t-shirt and jeans loving groom pick out an outfit that will live on forever in your wedding photographs, but at least give him a shot. It’s likely that you will be pleasantly surprised to know that he does a have a good sense of style, and as long as he doesn’t choose a look straight out of “Dumb and Dumber,” hear him out on his style choices. I mean, you wouldn’t want him to choose out your gown, right?
  • Find Unique Finishing Touches
    • There’s not too much wiggle room to really show of your personality in a tux, so if your groom’s got a unique personality, find a small detail in the outfit to really show it off. We love how each of these guys have some pretty unique socks (we are especially loving the Doppler Radar pair), because it shows off their style in a little hidden detail.

DIY Tuesday: Guestbook Table

DIY Guestbook Table Final

It’s DIY Tuesday, and today we’ll be creating a custom guestbook table!  We’re doing things a little differently this week and tackling a larger project, but with a basic knowledge of a few power tools (or the assistance of your lovely fiancé) I know that you can complete this gorgeous table!

DIY Guestbook Table Supplies

Supplies:

  • cedar
  • table legs (ours were scraped from an old desk)
  • wood screws
  • sand paper
  • wood stain
  • paintbrush
  • electric drill

DIY guestbook 1

Step One:  At your local hardware store, head to the lumber section and choose 5 pieces of uncut cedar.  Asking an employee or someone with working knowledge of a saw, have your cedar cut into three 19 inch pieces and five 43 inch pieces.

DIY Guestbook table 2

Step Two:  Sand each piece of wood down until all the roughness of the cedar is completely smooth.  This may take quite some time, so if you have less patience you may want to invest in an electric sander.

DIY Guestbook table 3

Step Three:  Line up each of your 43 inch pieces so that they are exactly flush (lined up) along the edges.  It is extremely important that this is accurate, or your table will look a little odd.  If you have slight differences in the edges from the cutting process, you can use your sandpaper again and smooth it out.

DIY Guestbook table 4

Step Four:  Using one of your 19 inch pieces lay it vertically across your longer pieces of cedar.  Set this cross piece so that there is about a 2 inch space left between the cross piece and the end of the table.

DIY Guestbook table 5

Step Five:  Now that the table top has been laid out, it is now time to secure your pieces together.  Depending on how skilled you are with an electric drill, you may want to use small picture frame nails and a nail gun to tack together your table.  This will help to lightly hold together your table while you drill in the screws, but it is not a required step.  Beginning through the cross piece, you want to drill in a screw to anchor in each of your 43 inch pieces to the cross piece (see pictured above).  Lay a second cross piece at the opposite end of the table and repeat this step securing your table top all together.  Because our desk has three legs, we added a third cross piece, but that is only personal preference.  Finally, attach your desk legs to the cross pieces using your wood screws, and add a lovely wood stain to your tabletop, and VOILA!

Bright Ideas: Simple vs. Bold Reception Lighting

Diversify Rooms

The right lighting is essential to your wedding reception so make sure you explore all your options to find the perfect lighting that will transform your reception venue and create the ambience you’re looking for. Cory’s Audio Visual can help you discover hundreds of lighting possibilities whether you’re aiming for a simple or bold lighting design. Leave no bulb unturned when it comes to your reception lighting!

Beautiful reception lighting doesn’t need to be complicated. If you want to keep it simple, pinpoint lighting is a classic technique that allows you to highlight features of your reception and spotlight special moments like the bride and groom’s first dance or the bouquet toss.

String lights are one of today’s most popular lighting trends. With this enchanting yet simple lighting technique you can transform any setting into a romantic get-away by draping string lights overhead mimicking a star-filled sky. String lights can also be used to draw attention to certain features or spaces and create boundaries between different areas of the reception.

Uplighting is a more dramatic approach to lighting for those wanting a bold look and feel to their wedding reception. Uplighting allows you to customize and brighten your whole space with lights placed around the perimeter of your space that illuminate the walls. Choose from a number of bold colors or textures and if you can’t decide on one color, the intelligent lighting option allows you to change the color of your lighting throughout the event.

The latest trend in reception lighting is projection lighting. For a bold and custom look, projection lighting is the perfect way to take your reception to the next level. Project anything from the names of the bride and groom to a romantic photo of the newlywed couple. Place your projection lighting above the dance floor for a fun environment or project your lighting above the cake to create sweet backdrop for cutting the cake!

Lighting can transform your venue from uninteresting to unforgettable so remember to explore the hundreds of lighting possibilities when planning your wedding reception. Whether you decide to go with simple or bold lighting, Cory’s AV will help make sure your wedding reception is lit to perfection.

DIY TUESDAY: GIANT TISSUE PAPER FLOWERS

tissue paper flower final

It’s DIY Tuesday again, and today we’ll be making giant tissue paper flowers.  For those of you who were not able to attend, this will be a recap from last week’s DIY class that we held at Uptown Grocery.  If you haven’t been able to attend one of our fun DIY classes, register for our blog to get info on upcoming classes.  They are a super fun way to spend some quality time with your bridesmaids, and to taste some delicious food from Uptown Grocery.  These gorgeous flowers were inspired from a runway show backdrop, which we thought would look absolutely gorgeous at any wedding.  Not only is it gorgeous, but the cost of the materials make it very cost effective to make a large amount of these flowers.

tissue paper flower supplies

Supplies:

  • Tissue Paper (2 Colors)
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Small Piece of Yarn
  • Cardstock Petal Template ( 8” X 9”)

tissue paper flower 1

Step One: Using a single sheet of the color you’d like to use for the inner flower, fold it into fourths. Once folded, cut off a section from the top about 1.5 inches in width.

tissue paper flower 2

Step Two: Take the section your cut off, and using your piece of yarn tie it in the center. You don’t want to pinch the tissue paper, so tie the yarn loosely.

tissue paper flower 3

Step Three: Trim the ends of your tissue paper section into points. This will create a Dahlia type look for the inner section of your flower. You may also round out the ends if you prefer a more Rose/Peony style.

tissue paper flower 4

Step Four: Taking your section of tissue paper, bring the ends toward each other going both directions. Once you have done that, very gently pull apart the two layers of tissue, bring them upwards. Then, pinch the opposite end of the flower and twist it to secure the end.

tissue paper flower 5

Step Five: Now that the center of the flower is complete, we will start on the outer petals. Taking a single sheet of the second color of tissue paper, fold it into fourths. Place your template on top of the folded paper, and cut out the petal shape. Separate the connected ends, and this should leave you with four separate petals. Repeat this step twice, and you should end up with 12 petals. Using your glue gun, add a dot of glue to the twisted end of the center flower, and attach the end of your large petal to this.

tissue paper flower 6

Step Six: Continue to add your petals in a circular motion around the center flower, using a dot of glue each time to secure each petal. Once you’ve added the first four petals, twist the end of the flower to keep your petals in position. Continue to add  petals in this same motion, and continue to twist the end of the flower. Once you’ve added all your petals, use a scrap piece of tissue paper and cut out a small rectangle long enough to wrap around the twisted end of the flower. Add a line of glue to the twisted portion of the flower, and secure it all together with the scrap rectangle. Finally fold your petals outward to give your flower a blooming appearance, and Voilà!

A Radiant Orchid Garden Wedding

A-pantone-wedding

The Thompson’s chose to highlight Pantone’s color of the year, radiant orchid, at their garden wedding with a simple black and white background. The elegance of the garden venue was the perfect setting for this sophisticated affair, and allowed the touches of radiant orchid to really shine.

The ceremony featured a clean look, with elegant chairs, a white chiffon draped arch, and dashes of radiant orchid along the aisle. The bride’s bouquet was a perfect display of this lovely color, featuring lilies, hydrangeas, feathers, peonies, and a few white blooms.

orchid-garden-wedding

While the ceremony had an ethereal look, the reception was simply breathtaking. Tony Foss was able to create a centerpiece look with the color of the year that took the reception to a new level. Each table featured a show stopping floral arrangement overflowing with hydrangeas, orchids, and lilies. Set against simple black table linens, the look screamed over-the-top elegance. To complete the look, the arrangement was paired with clear chargers and radiant orchid napkins set atop each plate.

While their colors made quite the appearance, photographer Jenni Woods was able to capture the Thompson’s special day in a way that the bride and groom were still the center of attention.
